Project Goals
CPG was hired to complete a National Register Nomination for The Cavalier Hotel.
Project Design
Through building analysis and historic research, CPG determined The Cavalier was locally significant.
The NRN highlighted the hotel’s local significance for its Jeffersonian inspired Classical Revival architecture and as an elite luxury hotel with a unique location overlooking the Atlantic ocean.
Challenges & Accomplishments
The Cavalier has a long, involved history with the community of Virginia Beach and distilling this into a nomination was challenging.
CPG determined that The Cavalier was rare due to its site overlooking the Atlantic and its dominance over the then simple town of Virginia Beach. Its excellent Jeffersonian inspired Classical Revival architecture, the embodiment of the luxury of the Roaring Twenties, and its unique location made it locally significant.
