Project Goals

Virginia Department of Historic Resources holds this dwelling, which sits in the local, state, and national register historic districts of Old Town Alexandria, under easement.

CPG has served in a long-term consultant role for several owners of this Federal “Row” architectural style property since 2013 to adhere to easement guidelines.

Project Design

CPG has had to reconcile easement compliance and historic preservation goals with each owner's comprehensive plan for the property.

Most recently, CPG was asked to assist the current owners with their renovation plans including obtaining approval for work under VDHR’s easement and historic rehabilitation tax credit programs as well as from the local Board of Architectural Review.

Challenges & Accomplishments

Over the last ten years, the project's scope has included two versions of an overall comprehensive plan for the property.

The plan incorporated the historic dwelling, existing and proposed modern additions, and installation of modern site features including a pool, garage, and pergola/walkway. CPG has received approval for the detailed design and construction documents for the rehabilitation.
